Benny's Adventure

Benny's Adventure

A mockup-toy meant to help a 3 year old boy named Benny with his occupational therapy. Assistive technology can come in all shapes and forms, we just have to go out and make it!

Behind the Scenes

This project was a collaboration between Ruyi Chen and I.

This project was done in a class which focused on assistive technology at NYU ITP. We met with an occupational therapist whom challenged us to make therapy fun for a patient of her's named Benny. Benny was 3 years old at the time, and had Cerebral Palsy.

We were given a cardboard box compatible with his sitting chair. Benny's occupational therapy was comprised of him pressing his feet into the cardboard box which had a switch inside.

Using this cardboard switch, we crafted a toy that had lights and music. It showed Benny going up and down a belt, as if flying. The toy came with multiple backgrounds and cutouts of his whole family.
