Into the Light

Into the Light

A math-focused interactive installation that needs 3 users with flashlights to discover a beautiful world. Socalizing in a public space can't be awkward when the art makes you do it, right?

Behind the Scenes

This project was heavily math based, with the intention to bring users together.

Using multiple particle systems in Processing, human forms appear on the screen if the user shines a flashlight (in most cases from their phone) onto 1 of 3 light sensors. If all 3 light sensors are activated at the same time, a whirlwind of particles appears with sound effects and immerses each shadow of the person displayed on screen.

A box with 3 photoresistors and an arduino was lasercut and displayed in front of the screen, allowing users to intuitively know where to shine their flashlights.

This project was showcased at an end of semester event. Many people came to the showcase alone, and so with this project, they had to socialize and ask others to come join them with their flashlights. It seems a lot of people had fun with it!
